!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! :( Even worse? It's the 5.7 and not the 426.

What's wrong with the engines Ford has to offer?

the 4.6 mod motor sucks. I've been thinking about and LSx swap for my grand marquis since the day I got it.

The Hemi is technically an improvement, but what's wrong with the DOHC 4.6? Or the 5.4? LS makes more sense than the Hemi. I'm generally against cross-breeding, but the LS has amazing aftermarket backing.

340hp > 260hp(I think)

Yupp no problem here.

If you're talking about the 1998 and earlier 2V 4.6s, then yes. They suck. They need the cylinder heads swapped out with something that actually breathes. The PI 4.6s from 99 on are much better, putting out 260 hp at a minimum, and can push much higher with cams, intakes, headers, and superchargers.

I'm with Paul here.

I think you could for a LOT less money swap on a cam, heads, headers and make better power.

Think about it. Buy a crate hemi, trans, wiring, mounts, + labor. Or Add on at most, cam, heads, headers, and supercharger (like paul said). I can't imagine it comes close on cost.

So how about that RB26 in the 68 Mustang? Or the 2JZ in the 67 Camaro? Those were technically improvements in the HP department too. Sure those are modern Japanese engines in classic American cars, but still. A MOPAR in a FoMoCo still irks me.

My best alternative swap for a Panther is to go BANZAI!!! and get an ex U-haul truck with the V10, swap like for like, and put 3V truck heads on the 6.9. WITH A SUPERCHARGER

I see...

But if you do the math, it falls short at 434ci.

This is obviously the BEST choice. although its a little tight in the engine compartment.

I get what you're saying, and normally I'm a keep-it-in-the-family kind of guy when it comes to engines. But this is at least in the same spirit unlike the turbo sixes in normally V8 cars and I'm sure you can get this engine cheap because its been in half the cars chrysler makes.

I've looked at super chargers and they are like 5-6k for a kit - and these are usually designed to fit on a mustang not panther so they take some additional work. To me that's crazy money when you consider how much a low mileage 6.2L LS motor costs. I'm not saying you cant get a 4.6 to put out the power you want, its just very expensive to do so.

Only one thing to do: overbore it 15 thou at great expense to make it an actual "440".

I just read the whole ad.

WTF?

When you build something like that you're doing it for your own enjoyment.

Finding another person with that specific taste and paying what you think it's worth is like winning Powerball twice and living through a lightning strike.

Anyone wanna go half and try breaking the Coast to Coast record??

Its just too small displacement wise. The super charger kits only boost them to the 3—-320 HP range and they cost 5-6 grand. Doesn't seem like a good bang for the buck to me. Don't get me wrong people have and can get the 4.6 motor to put out crazy numbers. It's just a lot of cash compared to a just yard 6.2L LS motor.

see responses above. Cost is the main reason why I wouldn't go down the path of modifying the 4.6. Too much money for not enough gain.

A 5.0 Coyote would be nice, or a 3V or 4V 4.6 or even a 5.4L, but fuck it, 340hp Vicky. Can't go wrong with that.

Plus which, it leaves you a utility truck. After swapping the trans, that is - very often the first thing to go on a V10 E350 U-Haul truck.

might as well go all out and do a manual conversion while you're in there. I honestly think putting a manual in a vic might be the best mod out there in terms of fun. I dont want to ruin the functionality of my bench seat though.

I find there's a strong argument for putting a switchable valve body setup in, and a drag-built auto+ high-stall TC. That way, you can flappy-paddle *BANG* between gears and take off like a rocket as needed, or pretend to be driving a grandpa car until you've lured a victim. That trans is buildable to a pretty decent level, and with heavy clutches would be able to tow in its regular drive mode as well. Win-win.
